   Application Guide

Acribond VST Acrylic Foam Tapes are compatible with a variety of substrates including metals, glass and most plastics.
Low surface energy plastics such as polypropylene and some plastics containing agressive plasticisers may also need special treatment.
Many surfaces require little more than a cleansing wipe with a suitable cleaner such as Acribond Prep.
However, some substrates and surfaces with contamination require further preparation.

Porous surfaces such as timber, concrete and plaster need to be primed or sealed to achieve a uniform and stable
platform for adhesion.

Most metal surfaces benefit greatly from a simple 3 step procedure,
'Wipe - Scuff - Wipe'.

  1. Firstly wipe the substrate with Acribond Prep to remove any surface contaminants or oils,
  2. then lightly abrade or scuff the surface with AP230M Abrasive Pads,
  3. and then wipe away any dust or debris with Acribond Prep and a clean cloth.

Metals with oxidised surfaces such as aluminium, copper and brass may need priming.

   Adhesion Versus Surface Energy

There are many substrates that can be joined by Acribond VST Tapes. The adhesive contact to these surfaces varies depending on the surface energy of the substrates to be bonded.
High surface energy substrates provide a greater molecular attraction with a resultant increase in adhesive 'wet out', or contact between the adhesive and the substrate, and ultimately provides a stronger bond.
Different surface finishes and treatments also affect adhesion.
